‘We speak, we write, we do language’ — Minnesota Writers Respond

In 1839, English writer and politician Edward Bulwer-Lytton wrote, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” On a chilly February evening nearly 200 years later, nine writers gathered at the Loft Literary Center to reaffirm that statement at Minnesota Writers Respond.

Each writer, including the event’s organizer, Jessica Nordell, read at least one work aloud that responded to the presence of federal immigration officers in Minnesota. 

The writers read a variety of pieces, including personal essays, poetry, prose and works in translation. Each helped create an evening of witness, repair and response to the current moment.
