The Scene

Hello everyone, if you didn’t know, I was promoted and soon I will no longer be the author of this newsletter. But that is a worry for the future, so let’s enjoy this time while it lasts and get into what A&E has for you this week.

In the spotlight, Gabriel Brito wrote about his time watching “A Minecraft Movie,” it was an experience to say the least. Isabella Caswell interviewed members of the UMN Comedy Club and highlighted their show on April 17. Sommer Wagen covered the Walker Art Center’s union rally on April 10. Sophia Arndt covered Disco Death Record and their vintage market in celebration of Record Store Day.

That’s all we have this week at The Scene.

“A Minecraft Movie” is a 100-minute catastrophe with an incoherent plot, an awful script and almost no character development consisting mostly of Jack Black saying things from the game in a funny voice.

The movie, released April 4, follows a forgettable cast of characters who find themselves trapped in the Minecraft world, called the “overworld,” and need to escape back to reality. Much of the story is rushed over in favor of action sequences or comedic bits, and many scenes felt so unconnected, it was almost like watching a series of random scenes rather than a continuous story.

By Isabella Caswell | The University of Minnesota Comedy Club is a space where people can hang out and joke about things that happen to and around them to prepare for the club’s April show Thursday at the Comedy Corner Underground on West Bank.

By Sommer Wagen | After three-and-a-half years as the Walker Art Center volunteer coordinator, former Walker Worker Union president Michelle Maser said she only got 10 minutes to clean out her desk.

By Sophia Arndt | Local vinyl and coffee shop Disco Death Records celebrated the annual Record Store Day by hosting a large vintage market in their parking lots alongside their vinyl sale.
