Hello Gopher fans,
While it may still be quiet for sports on campus, there’s been a bit of offseason work behind the scenes. Many programs have been in the midst of offseason camps, and that includes both men’s and women’s basketball. Our reporter Regan Guirguis caught up with the men’s team to get a read on what fans can expect this season, so check out her story if you’d like!
Gopher athletes have also been busy at pro camps this past week. Wyatt Cullen has been at development camp for the Nashville Predators, while Gopher women’s hockey got a few NHL camp invites too. Chloe Primerano and Abbey Murphy were invited to the Edmonton Oilers development camp alongside UMD’s Caitlin Kraemer. Naturally, there’s been some mixed fan reactions, but I think it’s a pretty cool milestone for the women’s game.
Whether your weekend plans involved fireworks or watching every MLB game you can, I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy some extra time over the Fourth of July weekend!
As always, Ski-U-Mah,

Roster continuity gives Gopher men’s basketball a head start under Medved
by Regan Guirguis | Published July 3, 2026
The Gophers men’s basketball team is readying itself for the 2026-27 season, after going 15-18 overall last season. Returning veterans and stability on the coaching front are providing the Gophers with continuity, a trait the team has lacked in years previous.
In March of 2025, the men’s basketball team hired head coach Niko Medved. The 2025-26 season marked Medved’s first season with the Gophers.
Along with a new coach, the Gophers entered the 2025-26 season with almost a completely new roster. These changes made the previous season a massive rebuilding effort for the Gophers as fans watched the team develop in real time.
