Daily Summer Recap - Part 3

August 15th, 2025

Good morning,

It’s Friday. And as I sit in the valley of the shadow of death, I look at my summer break and realize there’s nothin’ left. Luckily, The Daily has been grinding out stories to prepare us for our inevitable return to Gopher-land. Today we have stories on Gov. Walz’ regent appointments, a tasteful op-ed on regent-campus relations and a deep dive into state fair history.

And for world news, keep scrolling for stories on upcoming Russia-U.S. talks, the declining alcohol consumption rate and a BBC culture piece on a little-known Italian tradition — cooking chicken in the sand.

Enjoy the reads,

Quote of the Day:

“Agriculture continues to be the foundation of Minnesota; it’s an industry that we can’t do without, but it changes. We acknowledge that through education, through things that people learn, they change their industry, and the University is a part of that.”
