Daily Breakdown
Friday, Feb. 20, 2026
I am in a bit of movie rut, so I am taking suggestions on what to watch this weekend. It can be a nice deal between us: I take the time to add the suggestions to my Letterboxd, and you all take the time to read the Daily’s news articles.
I’ll preview what you can expect:
A city article exploring UMN law professor’s thoughts on the Supreme Court case challenging Trump’s executive order that would deny birthright citizenship to undocumented immigrants or temporary visitors. Next, a long-form piece about Twin Cities faith leaders and their experiences during Operation Metro Surge. And an opinion column about why people still watch live television.
Stay golden,

UMN law professor Ilan Wurman takes his birthright citizenship argument to Supreme Court
by Maja Holmen | City Reporter | Published Feb. 19, 2026
The United States Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on April 1, 2026, in Trump v. Barbara, a case challenging President Donald Trump’s executive order that would deny automatic U.S. citizenship for children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants or temporary visitors.
The order is currently blocked by a federal court injunction as the dispute heads toward the Supreme Court.
The ruling could affect how citizenship is determined for hundreds of thousands of U.S.-born children each year. At the center of the dispute is whether the order can be reconciled with the Constitution’s Citizenship Clause, found in the 14th Amendment, and with the federal statute that codifies it.
