Metro H Line to replace Route 3
by Trevor Dunning | City Reporter | Published April 9, 2026
Jack Drouin, a member of the University of Minnesota Undergraduate Student Government, has relied on Minneapolis public transit for the past three years. Living on West Bank, he has access to the light rail and several bus routes, including Route 3.
Metro Transit will replace Route 3 with the Metro H Line, an effort to expand transit service, and will start construction in 2028. Metro Transit is in its public comment period to gather people’s opinions about the new line.
The H Line will follow a similar path to Route 3, from West Bank to Como. The Van Cleve Park stop will be removed, and stops along Como Avenue will be spread farther apart. Residents enjoying their last drinks at Como Tap will have to walk two blocks to 29th Avenue to catch the last bus of the night.
