Daily Breakdown

Monday, June 8, 2026

Welcome back, news readers! Alexis put me in charge of buying her plane tickets last month. I guess she didn’t read the fine print, seeing as I sent her on a one-way flight to a research station in Antarctica. I hope she brought some sweaters; I heard it gets cold around this time of year.

Regardless, with my plans enacted, you’ll be hearing a lot more from me and a lot less from her. Since you’re in a place a lot warmer than hers, why don’t you kick back a little and read some of our stories? We start back up this week with the University dropping its “Leave a Future” tagline and Normandale Community College’s Japanese Garden celebrating 50 years. Certainly worth checking out when you get the chance.

Happy scrolling,

UMN ‘Leave a Future’ tagline scrapped by officials following public response

by Kyra Deters | Staff Reporter | Published June 7, 2026

The University of Minnesota has cut its new slogan, ‘Leave a Future’, after University officials deemed it unfit for an attempted brand rollout.

Having been introduced in mid-March, the tagline was met with mixed reception following the initial reveal. The slogan, which the University updated for the first time in two decades, was a part of a broader marketing initiative with Minneapolis-based marketing firm Rise and Shine and Partners, which will cost the University $15 million over the course of five years.
