On June 12, the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents voted unanimously in collaboration with other governing bodies to approve a new 10-year agreement between the University, M Physicians and Fairview Health Services, a partnership that will continue to support healthcare services and investments across the state.
With the current agreement scheduled to expire at the end of 2026, the pressure to come to a consensus had been rising exponentially. Now, University administrators and healthcare officials alike are moving forward with the massive deal.
The partnership carries significant stakes, such as providing healthcare to over 1 million people annually, training 70% of the state’s doctors and acting as a center for scientific advancement, according to the Minnesota Attorney General’s office.
Having taken up the role as facilitator between the parties in March 2025, Attorney General Keith Ellison noted several key aspects of the new deal.
