Originally set to take effect on July 1, a proposed Minnesota law requiring social media companies to display health warnings to users is now on pause after a technology and software group filed a lawsuit, claiming the proposed legislation violates the First Amendment.

NetChoice, representing major tech corporations such as Meta and TikTok, is suing Minnesota’s attorney general and health commissioner, according to Minnesota Public Radio. The lawsuit comes after Minnesota’s legislature passed a 2025 law that would mandate social media companies present a warning label created by the Minnesota State Department of Health every time a user opens their app.
