UMN rebranding efforts continue despite tagline woes
by Isabel Tifre | Staff Reporter | Published June 16, 2026
It’s back to the drawing board for the University of Minnesota as they ditch their ‘Leave a Future’ slogan announced in March.
University Senior Director of Public Relations Mesa Denny announced the shift in a June 5 statement. She said the University instead plans to integrate the ‘Leave a Future’ sentiment into future creative assets and content.
In an internal email shared with Racket, University Vice President of Communications Chris Gade said the University will not actually introduce the new tagline as part of a brand rollout later this year. However, other elements outside of the tagline will still be introduced, such as signage and advertisements, Gade said.
“The stories we tell, the ads we create, all of those things combine to reflect the performance of the University brand, and that’s what we’re refreshing in total,” Gade said.
