Good morning,

It has come to my attention that our Sports Editor, Champ Howard, made some unprofessional and, frankly, inexcusable comments in The Rouser yesterday. Like many of you, I was shocked and appalled to see those comments, and we will be internally reprimanding him.

For those of you who don’t know, Champ said “Go Lakers” in his newsletter yesterday. I questioned even including the quote because it is so disturbing, but I believe the people simply must know what sick thoughts go through this sick cat’s brain.

Read the news, and Wolves in five.

Take it easy,

UMN Senate joins Big 10 Coalition supporting academic freedom, institutional integrity, research enterprise

by Mady Leick | Published April 27, 2025

The University of Minnesota Senate voted in favor of establishing a mutual defense compact for the Big Ten Academic Alliance at the April 25 meeting.

The mutual defense compact, also known as the Rutgers Resolution, protects universities by creating a defense fund. The fund is meant to be used by any institution under “direct political or legal infringement,” according to the resolution.

Details of the fund, including the amount each participant will contribute, have not been publicized.

The resolution was passed at Rutgers less than a month ago, and Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Michigan State and the University of Nebraska have since endorsed the coalition.

The University of Southern California, the University of Wisconsin, Ohio State and the University of Minnesota were considering joining the resolution, according to V.V. Ganeshananthan, who introduced the resolution.

By Anshu Patel | Earlier this month, Howard Louthan announced his resignation as director of the Center for Austrian Studies (CAS) in response to the University of Minnesota’s removal of a 2022 CAS statement condemning the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This removal was a part of a broader attempt to enforce a controversial Board of Regents resolution approved in March to restrict institutional statements made by departments.

By Katrina Bailey | A new bill will require places of entertainment, including concert venues and stadiums, to provide attendees with access to free water.

Introduced in February by Rep. Leigh Finke (DFL-St. Paul), the bill requires a venue hosting an event of more than 100 people to provide access to drinking water by offering free bottled water, allowing factory-sealed water bottles to be brought in or letting attendees bring empty water bottles to fill up later.

By Izzy Curry | It’s in the TikToks we see of trad wives and University of Alabama sorority girls. It’s in the wealthy influencers who attended the after-party in Washington, D.C. on President Donald Trump’s first night of his second term.

In this cruel kids’ table setting, it looks like a picture taken from another time. That is, until you look closer at the iPhones, beer cans and TikTok screens posted around the room.
