Daily Breakdown

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026

Good morning everyone,

The ominous cloud of the second semester is finally upon us, and it’s hurricane season baby. In the meantime, it’s an honor to darken your inbox with some fresh cut news.

Over break, our reporters grinded (ground?) out some important stories. On city, multimedia stories on the Renee Good vigil. Also, briefs on Walz dropping out of the governor race and the tentative Minnesota National Guard Deployment to the cities. On sports, Anthony Good is back in Gopher football for another year and Gophers won the Rate Bowl.

The chefs are back in the kitchen. Get ready for more.

Pura vida,

“I am appreciative of our state partners, including the Minnesota National Guard, State Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources, Metro Transit and the University of Minnesota, who all stand ready to uphold public safety,” Jacobson said in Friday’s press conference.

“March Against Minnesota Fraud,” organized by conservative influencer Jake Lang, was planned for Saturday at 12 p.m. at Minneapolis City Hall.
