Daily Breakdown
Friday, March 20, 2026
Good morning everyone,
Got some bad news and good news. The bad news: The Minnesota Daily X BTS collab has been officially postponed, due to disagreements in overall vision. The good news is that we have a crap ton of stories for your viewing pleasure.
City has updates on a paid leave program and recently passed gun legislation. On campus, read about heightened midterm stress in the wake of Operation Metro Surge. Opinions, a message about Mexico as more than a tourist destination and some house party wisdom. Arts has an Oscars rundown, and sports has a March Madness WBB brief in advance of today’s game.
And a video desk piece about those Gopher tunnels!
It’s an all-you-can-read buffet! Get to munchin’.
Pura Vida,

Students say midterm stress heightened in the wake of Operation Metro Surge

Editor’s note: This story contains references to heightened anxiety and seeking mental help resources.
As midterm season comes to a close, many students say they have experienced heightened levels of anxiety due to the longstanding effects of Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota.
Gaomong Xiong felt that heightened level of anxiety this winter, especially during the height of Operation Metro Surge.
“I felt like there were things out of my control, and it was happening in my city,” Xiong said. “It was really heartbreaking and just a lot to process.”
