Hey news readers,

We’ve officially made it through the first week of the semester. Pat yourself on the back; you deserve it. While we may have many more Fridays to go, it never hurts to celebrate the little wins. Take a moment for yourself, and, just maybe, read what we have to offer. As we close out the week, we hear from students following Sunday’s shooting and get you up to speed on the Gophers’ week two SEC matchup. Don’t forget to enjoy your weekend in the meantime.

Stay frosty,

With area violence making headlines, students say they’ve become indifferent to crime

After Sunday's shooting in Dinkytown left two severely injured, University of Minnesota students say they’ve begun to feel more numb to the violence that has frequently bothered residents.

Seth Brezinski, a computer science student at the University, has become increasingly detached from violence in Dinkytown. Already rattled by last year’s fatal shooting in November, he was hardly affected this year. This time, the shooting just made him sad.

Two adult male victims were non-fatally injured in the gunfire. Following the shooting, one adult male was arrested for carrying a handgun without a permit, and several other handguns from the scene were recovered and held by officials.
