In celebration and honor of 100 years of Black History Month, St. Paul Public Library gathered community members to reflect, connect and learn about a piece of Minnesota history that is often left untold.
As part of Black History Month’s Doc-N-Dine event, featured filmmaker and educator Derek Francis, whose short documentary “Separate Not Equal” explores school integration in Minneapolis through the lens of individuals who experienced it firsthand.
The event was part of the library’s Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Commemorations series.
“This year makes it 55 years since Hale and Field paired, and so many people who have lived here their entire life don’t have an idea that this happened,” Francis said.
