BREAKING: Shots fired near Church Street parking garage

At around 8:45 p.m. Thursday, an altercation between two individuals near the Church Street parking garage escalated to gunfire, resulting in a student being grazed in the leg, according to witnesses.

According to a University Safe-U alert, there are no reported victims. The Safe-U alert reads:

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 8:44 p.m., A UMPD supervisor reported hearing gunshots near Rapson Hall. At the time, a student group event with an estimated 300 attendees was taking place inside the building. Officers arrived on scene and started to search the area. There are no reported victims. Out of an abundance of caution, please stay away from the area while UMPD and law enforcement partners continue their investigation. Event attendee Mohammed Yusef said a University student was grazed in the leg and the said student left the scene.
